2018.03.2920:26:00UTC+00UN: Brazil Presents Bid For Rotating Seat In The Security Council

The Brazilian government applied for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. The chair, reserved to Latin America and the Caribbean countries, would be available from between 2022 and 2023.

According to a statement released by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Honduras also applied for a seat in the Security Council but, after an agreement, Brazil anticipated its bid, which was previously scheduled for the period between 2033 and 2034. The last time Brazil occupied the seat was in 2010 and 2011.

"The bid reflects the country's commitment to the multilateral political system and constructive engagement in peace and security decision-making, driven by the idea of a peaceful, just and prosperous world for all, in line with constitutional principles governing the Brazilian foreign policy," the Itamaraty said in a statement.
