According to one point of view, the euro is not attractive any more. Sometimes anti-euro sentiment is expressed among countries using the single currency. Former solidarity among citizens of the European Union gradually changes to the desire to make everything as it was before. Italy is on the list of the countries praising olden days.

Salvatore Rossi, Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Italy, speaking on the radio program, was virtually overwhelmed by numerous ringers insisting on the euro refusal and the lira returning. Apparently, the epidemic, which is called ‘It used to be better’ has reached Italy. According to Salvatore Rossi, few years ago such statements would have come as a shock and even now the implementation of this scenario could have disastrous financial consequences. More and more Italians say that the euro is the main reason of the economic downturn. They recollect that until the euro was introduced they had lived considerably better, they were more attractive and younger, to say nothing about the trees which were bigger. Preparing for the elections scheduled for June, the Italian politicians add fuel to the fire. Every candidate tries to use the protest sentiment in their own favor neglecting consequences and promises to deal with the problem in case of victory, i.e. to return the lira into circulation, as well as to restore youth and beauty.

Interestingly, the ruling Italy’s Democratic Party supports the euro and wants to enhance the European integration, though, it complains the financial regulation in the euro area is tough.
