The main prize, Aiguille d’Or “Grand Prix”, went to the Récital 22 Grand Récital model, the third Bovet astronomical watch. The design of the watch is based on the idea of Tellurium Orrery, a working planetarium that brings the Earth, moon and sun to the wrist. An alluring hand-painted Earth globe represents the Earth that rotates on its axis and displays the hours (in 24-hour format) at the base of the globe.
The spherical moon rotates around the Earth globe every 29.53 days, as in reality. The watch will be released in a limited series, 60 pieces. The cost of a gold model is 468,500 Swiss francs (prices from the official website of the award).
Chronomètre Contemporain made by Akrivia took the Men’s Watch Prize. The Akrivia brend was created by the Kosovo Albanian Rexhep Rexhepi six years ago. According to the creator, watches of the officers of the 1940s inspired him to create Chronomètre Contemporain. Chronomètre can be made with a white or black dial.
Another feature: for the first time, Rexhepi will sign the watch. Usually models are signed only by Akrivia. A total of 25 copies of Chronomètre will be produced. Each one will cost 59,940 francs.
For the second year in a row, Chanel products got the Ladies’ Watch Prize. Last year, Premiere Camellia Skeleton took the lead in the nomination, becoming the first women's watch made by Chanel. This year, the Boyfriend Skeleton model won the prize. The watch has two dials (the first one - with the hour and minute hands, the second one - with the second hand), manual winding and a power reserve of 55 hours. The starting point in the design was the idea to combine straight "male" lines and rounded "female" ones.
Chanel took three years to implement this idea. The cost of the watch is estimated at 53,900 francs.
Galet Annual Calendar School Piece, Laurent Ferrier, became the winner in the Men’s Complication Prize category. They display hours, minutes, seconds, date, day of the week, month, and power reserve. In addition, manufacturers promise quick setup of all these parameters. The watch in the steel case are estimated at 50,000 francs.
The Mechanical Exception Watch Prize went to the first watch with a grand strike made by the manufactory Greubel Forsey. From five to eight copies of Grande Sonnerie are produced annually, the price of each starts from 1.23 million Swiss francs. Greubel Forsey is one of the most difficult and expensive watches created by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey.
The Clown watch, presented by Konstantin Chaykin Russian manufactory, received a special Audacity Prize. This is the first award in the history of the Geneva Grand Prix that was awarded to the Russian master. Clown is a new version of the famous Joker model. On the technical side, these two models are absolutely identical, the difference between them lies in the appearance and the idea.
Chaykin dedicated Clown to the character of the It film. Part of the money from the sale of this model will be spent to children's charity.
Van Cleef&Arpels watches won two awards at once. Secret de Coccinelle and Lady Arpels Planétarium models were recognized as the best Jewelry Watch and Ladies’ Complication Watch, respectively.
On the dial, Lady Arpels has the Sun (made of pink gold), Mercury (nacre), Venus (green enamel), Earth (turquoise) and the diamond moon. The cost of this model is 257,500 francs.
The second model made by Van Cleef&Arpels, Secret de Coccinelle, became the best jewelry watch of the year. They have a hidden dial. The unique model is estimated at 1.09 million francs. This is perhaps the most expensive model among the winners.
Singer Track1 Hong Kong Edition got the Chronograph Watch Prize. The watch with central and several peripheral dials are shown in a black ceramic case which is resistant to scratches, corrosion and wear. Limited edition of 50 copies. It costs 47,927 francs.
The Sports Watch Prize went to Seiko Prospex 1968 Diver's Re-creation, a re-release of the classic Seiko diving watch which were first presented to the public in 1968. The watch have a steel case. Its cost is estimated at 6,500 francs.
In the new category, Chronometry Watch, jury members evaluated models in which important values for watch making were embodied. DB25 Starry Varius Chronomètre Tourbillon model made by De Bethune became the winner. The watch was chosen for the combination of technically sophisticated features and elegant design. The series is limited, only 20 copies. The cost is estimated at 197,000 francs.
Habring² watches win the “Petite Aiguille” Prize for the third time. Prior to this, the prize was received in 2013 and 2015. This year, the Doppel-Felixchronograph for 8,650 francs got the award.
Arceau Robe du soir by Hermes was recognized the best in the Artistic Crafts Watch nomination. The profile of the horse on the dial is made from a tiny rectangular squares. The drawing was inspired by Hermes Robe du Soir silk scarf. It took a year and a half to produce the watch. A series of 12 copies, 52,000 francs per each.
This year a new nomination was announced, Challenge Watch, and Tangente neomatik 41 Update became the winner. The watch with the original date indicator (on the dial rim) cost 3,520 francs.
The Innovation special prize was awarded to Everywhere Horizon, Krayon, with the sunset/dawn indication. The watch was made in a single copy, its price is estimated at 775,000 francs.
